6. Suvarna Ganesha Temple

Sri Suvarna Ganesha Temple is another famous tourist attraction with a rich history. This temple has an interesting story in 1997, a woman was digging a field in a village. While doing so she felt something hit the ground. Digging further, she found an old copper crest with an inscription in ancient Sanskrit. Inside the sila was a gold idol of Lord Ganesha. There were some ornaments along with the idol. The villagers considered themselves blessed and then built the temple. The idol was stolen again in 2012 by thieves who melted down the idol for gold. After 9 years in 2021 the temple got a new gold idol. Lord Ganesha according to folklore, on the day of Sankashti Chaturthi, 17 November 1997, Draupadi Dharma Patil discovered a copper chest about 40-50 centimeters underground while working in a coconut plantation. The chest weighed about 30 kg and measured 37.5 cm in length, 45 cm in width and 17.5 cm in height. The box is said to have been inscribed with a Sanskrit text dating back to the 10th century. A gold idol of Ganesha and many ornaments were found in that box. However, the reason for the burial of the box and the idol is still a great mystery.

When Sambhaji also failed, he built another island fort known as Kansa or Padmadurga, 9 km north of Janjira. The Janjira kingdom ended after 1947. The palace of the Nawabs of Janjira at Murud is still in good condition.
