4. Suvarnadurg Fort

Suvarnadurg is a famous place near Dapoli. It is a Golden Fort, a coastal fort surrounded by the ocean on all sides. This fort was conquered by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1660. The island of Suvarnadurg Fort is near Harne in Ratnagiri district, a natural harbor famous for fishing and sales. A very strong fort, its walls are cut into the solid rock and the ramparts are built using huge square blocks. Mortar is not used on the walls. The fort has several bastions and a rampart to the west. A hidden main gate opens to the east. It has a carved figure of a tortoise on its threshold and Maruti (Hanuman) on the side wall. Inside the fort there are several buildings, water tanks and a place to keep ordinances. All buildings are now dilapidated. This fort may have been built by the kings of Bijapur in the 17th century. Captured and fortified by Shivaji Maharaj, it became a Maratha naval stronghold and remained under the control of the Peshwas until 1818. Suvarnadurg Fort was the base of the Maratha warship building facility.

Suvarnadurg Fort which is located on a small island in the Arabian Sea, near Harnai in Konkan, on the west coast of India, in the state of Maharashtra, India. The fort has another land fort (smaller) called Kanakadurg at the foot of Harnai port on the coast. Suvarnadurga literally means "golden fort" as it was considered the pride or "feather in the golden cap of the Marathas". Built for defense purposes for the Maratha Navy, the fort also had shipbuilding facilities. The original purpose of establishing the fort was to resist enemy attacks, mainly by European colonists and also by local chieftains. It is home to many ancient forts and historical landmarks, once famous as a British encampment. One such monument is Suvarnadurg Fort - a 16th century fort situated on a beautiful island in the Arabian Sea. The word "Suvarna" means gold in English, hence the name "Golden Fort". The most striking feature of the fort is its breathtaking location on the west coast of India, surrounded by the crashing waves of the sea.

Kanakadurg Fort, an important port, is located on the very edge of the land that stretches into the Arabian Sea. It is a natural harbor known for large fishing and marketing. Kanakdurg fort and other forts like Bankot fort, Fategad fort and Goa fort are believed to have been built mainly as observation forts for the security of Suvarnadurg fort. There is no landing jetty at Suvarnadurg Fort. However, the landing is on the shore of a rocky island with a sandy beach. Earlier the land fort and the sea fort were connected by a tunnel, but now it is closed. The current access to the sea fort is by boats from the Harnai port on the headland. It is a protected monument. Another feature of this area is that a narrow channel separates the forts of Goa, Kanakdurg and Fattegarh from the mainland. A hidden main gate opens to the east. It has a carved figure of a tortoise on its threshold on the side wall. Inside the fort there were several buildings, a water tank and a place to store weapons.

5. Panhalakaji Caves

Panhalakaji caves are buddhist caves dating back to the 3rd century. Later expanded by various Buddhist groups. The cave inscriptions are in Dhamma and Devanagari script. According to copper inscriptions he is called Pranalaka. During the reign of Adil Shah in the seventeenth century, a Qazi was installed and the title was added to his name and later the place was named as Panhale Qazi. These caves are located in the valley of Kotjai river in the mountain range. There are Panhalkaji Caves on the Dapoli-Dabhil Pangri route. The road goes right up to the caves. 6. Kadyavarcha Ganapati

Anjarle village near Dapoli has a Ganesha temple. It was first built of wood in 1150AD and then rebuilt in 1768-1780. It is especially noted for the right sided placement of the Ganesha idol, i.e. its trunk turns to the right which is rare. The temple has a stone staircase to reach the top of the temple. The view from the top is magnificent. Situated on a hill near Anjarle village, this Ganesha temple is surrounded by beautiful scenery. The temple is very attractive and overlooks the sea from Harne to Utambar, Anjarle village hidden by the beach, coconut and betel trees and Anjarle Bay on the other side. The idol in this temple differs from other representations of the elephant-headed god in that its trunk curves to the right, not to the left as usual. It is known as Ganesha of the right trunk. The idol is also believed to be an awakened deity, who responds to his supplications Navasala Pavnara is known as Ganapati. There are stone steps to the right of the temple leading to the top of the temple (Kalas), which offers a beautiful view of the surrounding coconut and betel nut trees, the nearby Suvarnadurg fort, the Arabian Sea and the surrounding hills. Who donated the entire earth to Maharishi Kashyap. No one in the world has done such a big donation. After donating the earth. Lord Parasurama decided not to live on the donated land. And they came near Sagara. He asked Sagara to go back so that some land could be given to Parasurama to live on. He gave Sagara a day's time to think about it. While in the same thought, Ocean saw a weevil drowning in the water and the weevil who saved his life promised in the metropolis that he would help Ocean overcome his problem. The next day Lord Parashurama approached the ocean and asked again, are you ready to retreat or are you ready for war At that time the ocean very humbly requested Lord Parashurama to take the wooden bow and shoot the arrows wherever you want. I am ready to go back as far as that arrow will go. Lord Parashurama agreed with his opinion, Bumblebee at the same time came close to Parashurama and made a tunnel in a wooden bow. As soon as Lord Parashurama took the bow and released the arrow, the bow broke with a crackling sound. Meanwhile, an arrow shot from a bow is so powerful and fast that it covers a distance of more than 700 kilometers. According to the verse, the ocean is said to have withdrawn its waters from the area reached by the arrow and the place was named Parasurama Bhumi “Konkan”.
